How to Clean a Roof Cargo Box

When you like to use your car for small vacations frequently, it is prudent that you invest in a rooftop cargo box. These rooftop carriers help you pack stuff that does not fit in the car trunk easily.

How To Clean The Car Roof Cargo Box

Unlike your car interior, the rooftop cargo box will get exposed to dust, dirt and weather elements. So, you will need to clean it from time to time. Before you dismantle it and store it for future needs, cleaning it up in the right way is recommended. There are some handy methods for cleaning up your car roof cargo box:

Spray The Box with A Cleaner

You don’t have to reinvent the wheel here. You can use any commonly available cleaning agent to get rid of the dirt and grime that usually get accumulated on the rooftop cargo box. But don’t use a strong cleaning agent because that might damage the surface of the roof box. Just use dish soap in case, you are running out of options. Or you can simply use soapy water to get the job done.

    Wipe With A Soft Towel

After you spray the cleaning fluid on the cargo box from all directions, let it soak for a while. After that, use a microfiber towel or soft cloth to wipe it off well. This will ensure the cargo box surface does not get scratched. If you use quality anti-scratch microfiber towels, the outcome will be the best. Such towels are lint-free and so you will not have to deal with any fuzzy bits left on the box surface. Ensure you wipe the box well from all directions and the bottom part too.

    Rinse Your Car Cargo Box

If the car roof carrier is really dirty, nothing short of cleaning with a water hose pipe will do. Use lukewarm water for the best outcome. This kind of cleansing helps wipe away all residues of dirt from the box surface. However, after the rinsing is over, ensure you wipe the box with a soft and dry towel or cloth.

    Let it Dry

If you plan to dismantle the cargo box and store it for some time, let the water dry out. Ensure you store it in a place where it won’t accumulate dirt and dust easily. It can be a room in the house or the garage, for example. You may want to wrap it with a cover as well.

    Protect It From Fading

There is little you can do about the cargo box getting exposed to sunlight. It is natural that its hue will fade to an extent. It will depend on the frequency of usage, as it is, while colour fading cannot be evaded you can reduce the severity. You may use Polytrol to reduce hue fading.

    Summing It Up

Cleaning your car roof cargo box periodically is a necessity to ensure its longevity. It also ensures the aesthetic appeal of your vehicle is enhanced. You can use a regular car cleaner or other solutions but ensure care is taken to rinse and let the box dry.
