A car roof cargo box can be used to transport many odd and useful items to places but what about skis? Skiing is very popular and nowadays skis are made with wood and materials like aluminium and carbon fiber. However, when you transport skis in a car roof box, you have to think of the practicality.

    Fitting

Some models of roof boxes are now designed specifically to store skis. So, don’t spend hours compare the length and width of the skis with different models of cargo roof boxes. These roof boxes are meant to accommodate skies. Just put the skies inside these roof boxes and hit the open road. Your skies will be just fine. However, just because they are designed to accommodate skies that does not means, they have mechanism in place to keep the skies protected inside. Use straps to tie down the skis inside so that they don’t move around inside the box.

What Size Roof cargo Box Should I Use?

That depends to an extent on your vehicle size. A small-sized cargo box is ideal for a small car, logically and the opposite is also true. You have to check out the web for cargo boxes made to carry skis.

Benefits Of Transporting Skis using A Roof Box

    • A rooftop cargo box will enable you to transport skis along with other mountaineering gears safely. The equipment will be safe and car space will not be impacted. Storing the skis in your car can be risky and tedious.
    • The hard-shell cargo boxes are sturdy and they withstand exposure to sun, snow or rainfall very well. They can keep the skis in good shape. However, check the cargo box dimensions before placing the order. Think of the ski length and car roof size.
    • When carrying skis in a car roof box, ensure they are strapped down. Or else, the skis will move inside and get damaged.
    • Having your skis packed inside a roof cargo box ensures they do not get dirty and duty. This matters even more if you invest in an expensive set of skis.

    Limitations of Roof Boxes

Although car roof boxes are ideal for carrying your skis safely, there are some drawbacks too. As setting up roof boxes enhance the height of your car, check the road ahead and search the map for any low-height tunnels. It would be ideal not to drive at a high speed when the car roof carrier contains ski sets inside.

    Final Thoughts

Overall, car roof boxes are good for carrying skiing sets and mountaineering gears. But you have to buy a cargo box that is suited for carrying such stuff. Check out the reviews of various rooftop cargo box models online before placing an order for one.

Also, take care of the skis while strapping them down inside the car roof cargo box.
