So, you have purchased a roof carrier but now you have no idea how to store it when you are not using. Keeping a roof box attached to the roof your car when you are not using it is a bad idea because it will then continue to eat up the gas for no good reason at all. But roof boxes are extremely large and that means, there is no way you can put it on the floor, they will take up a lot of valuable space. But you absolutely need to figure out how to store it because otherwise, it will become unusable sooner or later.

    Find a Suitable Location

You first need to find a place which is well-ventilated otherwise, the roof box will develop a musty smell over time. Mildew and moisture will start degrading the roof box over time. The place should ideally be dry and should get at least some amount of sunlight (but you will have to make sure that the sunlight does not directly fall on the roof box). Sunlight even in small amount will help keeping the mildew in bay. Places like shed or garage might be ideal to store the roof box.

    Get Two Hooks

Once you have found the right spot or the wall to hang your roof box, now you need to get two good quality hooks. You can easily purchase them from your local store. The hooks should be of good quality otherwise they will not be able to hold on to the weight of the roof box for long. Place them at least 40 inches apart (because science dude!).

    Get a Conduit Tube

You can use a conduit tube or just a steel rod and put cap at both ends of the rod or the tube so that the rod stays put. Now you need first place the roof cargo box on the floor and open the lid. Now, lift the roof box up a little bit and then slide the rod under it. Now, starts tightening up the clamps of the roof box so that they grip the conduit tube or the rod tightly. The process is very much similar to that of attaching a roof box to a roof rack. Once you feel confident that both the clamps are firmly attached to the tube or rod, you can close the lid.

Lift It Up and Let It Go

Now, it is the showtime. You will have to lift up the roof box and then you need line up the bar or the tube with the hooks. Now, take a deep breathe and just let it go. It will stay suspended in the air thanks those strong hooks.

    Extra Tip

Just make sure that the car roof carrier is cleaned before you store it away. The roof box might develop musty smell if it is not cleaned thoroughly before putting it away. Read this article to know more about how to clean a roof box.
